McKellar Tree Planting Program 2020/2021
The McKellar Environmental Committee and the Manitouwabing Lake Community Association, (MLCA), would like to thank one and all for the success of our first McKellar Tree Planting Program. Over 2,000 Native trees and bushes were planted by over 100 different individuals. Included were White Pine, Balsam, Hemlock, Silver Birch, Mountain Ash, Silver Maple and Nanny Berries.
Seedlings were offered to all township ratepayers at bulk prices, with no minimum orders required.
The program ran smoothly, with relatively few glitches, and anyone having to wait for resolution proved to be very gracious and patient.
As we ran into some short orders and substitutions by the nursery, we will be launching year two in the fall so that we are further up the ladder when it comes to the nursery choosing our stock. We have already spoken for the missing lilac, but, be on the watch for order deadlines in August or September instead of the spring.
We hope to expand our selection a bit and also try again for the elusive Tamarack and Cranberries. Thanks again to all, the weather was perfect, and pickup went smoothly…..a good start, proving to be a program worthy of continuing. See you this fall!
