McKellar Public Library

A well-stocked library that also offers five public computer stations and one computer station for young children.  Many local residents and visitors to the community bring their laptops to take advantage of our free WiFi service.  Need a fishing rod?  Borrow one from the library by simply checking it our with your library card.  Opening hours: Tuesday, 12 noon to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Membership is free to all ratepayers in the Township.  Phone 705-389-2611.  Website:  www.mckellarpubliclibrary.ca


Evelyn Watkins Moore Heritage Room

The Heritage Room hosts a unique and interesting collection of artifacts which reflect the history and heritage of McKellar.  Available at the Heritage Room is the "Walking Tour Booklet," which will lead you on a historical stroll through the village.  Located at the rear of the McKellar Community Centre, Heritage Room hours in 2014 are as follows: May & June, Tuesdays & Thursdays 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. July & August, Tuesdays & Thursdays 2:00 4:00 p.m. September & October, Tuesdays & Thursdays 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Considered a work in progress, the Historical Society Committee will be continually adding to the displays and invites community members, their families and guests to visit the Evelyn Watkins Moore Heritage Room and learn about the rich history of the Township of McKellar.


McKellar Fall Fair

Have fun at this old fashioned fall fair held at the McKellar Community Centre and grounds on the Saturday following the Labour Day weekend in September each year from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Admission: Adults $4. Children up to the age of 14 are free. Enjoy the horse show, bands, livestock displays, special prizes, sports program (log sawing, spike driving, arm wrestling and children's races), vendor and food booths, game booths, face painting and balloons, children's pet competition and Community Hall displays of award winning vegetables, flowers, needlework, children's projects, baking and preserves, handicrafts and fine arts. McKellar Market

This genuine farm producers market is unique in that there are no "re-sellers"- all products are sold directly by the producers. The Market is designed to encourage people to "eat fresh and eat local" and as a destination that will support local businesses by attracting not only local residents, but also many visitors to McKellar.  It supports businesses within 100 mile radius of the village, encourages local residents to develop new businesses and offers promotional opportunities for local not-for-profit organizations.  The Market offers such items as farm fresh meat, seasonal produce, fruit, traditional and gluten-free baking, herbs and teas, preserves, maple syrup, honey, wool and a variety of traditional crafts. The Market runs every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. from July long weekend until Thanksgiving weekend at Minerva Mill Pond Park on Highway 24 in the village of McKellar. McKellar Skating Rink and Tennis Court

The covered McKellar skating rink and tennis court, beside the Township office, is available for public skating and playing hockey during the winter season and tennis in the summer. Skating lessons for children, both beginners and those with basic skills, are also provided. McKellar Walking Program

Members of the McKellar free walking program, meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  We are "Walking across Canada in the comfort of the McKellar Community Centre.  Our members are varied, usually 15-25 people each day.  Ages also vary, with the youngest being only a few weeks old to a gentleman at the ripe old age of 92.  Everyone is welcome and we encourage you to set your own pace and only do what you feel comfortable with.  We walk to music after doing ten minutes of mild stretching exercises (voluntary) and end with some mild stretching. We are amazed at the difference in our fitness levels since we started in November.  Everyone is positive and happy and many friendships flourish while walking our laps.  We welcome you to join us and the price is right - free!  For more information please contact the Township Office at 705-389-2842.

The Hurdville Community Club holds euchre parties at the Hurdville Hall on Friday's at 7:30 p.m.  Contact:


McKellar Senior Citizens Club, a non-profit organization serving the needs of seniors, organizes trips, card games and social activities.  Contact: Mary Ann Beck at 705-389-2899.


McKellar Sunshine Seniors meet year-round on Thursdays.  Annual membership fee is $10.  The weekly cost is $5 for lunch at 12 noon, euchre and carpet bowling at 12:45 p.m.  Two euchre tournaments and special outings held each year.  Contact: 705-389-1531 or 705-389-1963 for further information.


Manitou Ski School (MSS)

We are a family run ski school on Lake Manitouwabing.  We offer WSWO certified and insured beginner level instruction in all watersports including wakesurfing, waterskiing, slalom and wakeboard. We provide all the equipment you will need and we come to you, either at your dock or pick you up at the McKellar town docks.
