This talk will examine how boat wakes affect lakes in cottage country by connecting the science of wake generation to the impacts observed along shorelines and in nearshore environments. It will focus on how wake energy can contribute to shoreline erosion, increased turbidity, nutrient release, algal blooms, and disturbance of aquatic plants and habitat. The presentation will also discuss why lake setting, boat type, speed, distance from shore, and water depth matter, and how this information can support practical, evidence-based stewardship and lake-management decisions.
