Supporting Emergency Preparedness for Seniors
McKellar Fire is proud to share that proceeds from this year’s community hockey tournament will be dedicated to supporting emergency preparedness initiatives within our community. Specifically, funds raised will go toward assembling 72-hour emergency power outage preparedness kits.
Seniors Emergency Preparedness Day
McKellar Fire, in partnership with the McKellar library, will host a Seniors Emergency Preparedness Day in October. The event will focus on educating and supporting at-risk seniors, who can be especially vulnerable during extended power outages and severe weather events. Attendees will receive preparedness information, practical safety guidance, and a 72-hour emergency kit to help them remain safe and self-sufficient during emergencies.

Don’t Break the Law When You Dig
|
If you’re on the seam of heavy clay that runs through McKellar, this is the perfect time of year to do any kind of garden project that involves digging holes. The ground is no longer sopping wet, but it still has enough moisture to be easy to work with. Fantastic! Time to grab the shovel.
But wait! Not quite so fast. Did you know you have a legal obligation to check for underground infrastructure before you dig? Even if you think you know exactly what’s under your feet. Even in a rural place like McKellar.
Luckily, your legal obligation is not an onerous one. Visit OntarioOneCall.ca to submit your locate request. If there’s no infrastructure at all, you’ll get your answer right away. If there is, you’ll be glad to avoid an expensive and potentially dangerous accident.
